What is Deep Tissue Massage?
Deep Tissue Massage is the practice of the massage therapist using firm pressure and slow strokes with knees, elbows, palms, and thumbs to the deep layers of muscles and fascia (connective tissue). The deep tissue massage is designed to focus on problem area that the client has be that areas of chronic pain, sports injuries, arthritis, or other types of injuries. This is accomplished by using the slow deep strokes to break up scar tissue and muscle adhesions (knots).

At Refresh Thai Spa, the deep tissue massage starts with light pressure to warm up the muscles. This can be compared to the petrissage stage of the Swedish massage. Following this the therapist will move onto more focused problem areas of the client using more pressure. Depending on the client and the level of pain, the therapist will increase or decrease the level of pressure applied to ensure the client has a satisfactory session.

Swedish massage vs deep tissue massage
So what is the difference between the two? Swedish massage is more focused on relaxation and reliving tension from muscles and helping you relax and get rid of all that stress.
